Gothic Romance Met Gala / Branding Proposal
Gothic Romance is a proposal for the Met Gala that celebrates gothic designers, such as Rick Owens, Alexander McQueen, Anna Sui, Olivier Theyskens, Gareth Pugh, Yohji Yamamoto, and Philipp Plein. The Gothic Romance theme plays with celestial themes and the boundaries between darkness and light.

Concept
The proposal’s overall theme centers around the relationship between darkness and lightness and gothic art. There are three chapters within the proposal that give recommendations for attire, jewelry, and hair and makeup that are color-coded with themes that play to gothic motifs.

“I’m a romantic schizophrenic. Some people think I’ve become softer with this spring collection, but it’s always been in my work. There may be an Edgar Allen Poe romance to it…”

Typography.
The display type was made from colorful wires that were photographed and then image traced in Illustrator. An Illustrator art brush was then made to draw tulle around the characters, giving the typeface dimension.
The entire alphabet was made - these new characters were used for headings and titles in the book.
